Wayne G. Riches, M.D.

Dr. Riches is a native of Eastern Washington and grew up in the city of Richland. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine, where he was selected a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Riches completed his five-year residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of California-San Francisco, and was selected as chief anatomic pathology resident. During his time at UCSF, he pursued his special interests in pathology with concentrated study in gastrointestinal, ultrastructural, and nephropathology.
After his training, Dr. Riches came to Spokane as a staff pathologist at Sacred Heart Medical Center (SHMC), where he has worked since 1982. As Chief of Renal and Ultrastructural Pathology, he has been principally responsible at SHMC for interpretation of 200 kidney needle biopsies per year, including interpretation of immunofluorescence and electron microscopy studies. These diagnostic modalities are also applied by Dr. Riches to the evaluation of dermatoses and in the ultrastructural diagnosis of malignancies and pediatric cilia and metabolic disorders.
In addition to his work in the immunofluorescence and electron microscopic laboratories, Dr. Riches has distinguished himself as a busy general surgical pathologist. During his tenure, Dr. Riches has applied his UCSF training and expertise to the evaluation of thousands of pediatric and adult endoscopic biopsies, serving as a valued consultant to his clinical colleagues for over 25 years. By virtue of his special training and broad experience, Dr. Riches is one of Incyte Diagnostics’ team of GI pathologists with subspecialty interest.
Dr. Riches is Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. He is an active member of numerous national and local professional medical societies and organizations.
Dr. Riches is licensed in states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Kentucky.
