New State-of-the-Art Guided Scanners for Cytology Lab
Posted: Oct 04, 2012

InCyte Pathology recently implemented the Becton Dickinson (BD) Focal Point™ GS Imaging System in its Cytology Department.  This computer-driven microscope, which is electronically linked to the Focal Point Slide profiler, automatically moves to fields of view identified to be the most abnormal on the slide.  This state-of-the-art system utilizes location guided screening to identify the ten most abnormal fields on a SurePath™ Pap test slide.
The BD FocalPoint GS Imaging System assists in cervical cancer screening of BD SurePath™ Pap test slides to detect evidence of squamous carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and their precursor conditions. In clinical trials, the Becton Dickinson FocalPoint GS Imaging System demonstrated significantly improved sensitivity for the detection of important cervical lesions.
“InCyte Pathology believes the FocalPoint System may improve accuracy without increasing equivocal case detection,” explains InCyte Pathology’s Chief Operating Officer, Gary Gemar.  “Location-guided screening in cervical cytology offers a significant advance over routine manual screening.”
