Amy M. Backer, M.D.

Dr. Backer is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology with subspecialty fellowship training in gastrointestinal surgical pathology.  She joined Incyte Diagnostics in 2002.  Dr Backer is currently serving as the Laboratory Medical Director at PMH Medical Center in Prosser, WA.

Dr. Backer received her training in gastrointestinal surgical pathology under the tutelage of Dr. Donald Antonioli and Dr. Harvey Goldman at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. Dr. Goldman is an international leader in the field of anatomic pathology, with research expertise in gastrointestinal pathology, and is the author of numerous papers and academic texts. Dr. Antonioli is a distinguished Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is also the author of numerous papers and texts related to both diagnostic general surgical pathology and gastrointestinal pathology.
 
During her fellowship, Dr. Backer received training in gastrointestinal pathology, pediatric gastrointestinal pathology and hepatic pathology, reviewing hundreds of diagnostically challenging consult cases and participating in various research projects.
 
Dr. Backer completed her medical school training, internship and pathology residency at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. During her residency, she had the opportunity to work with the renowned Dr. Roger Haggitt at the University of Washington’s Department of Gastrointestinal Surgical Pathology. Following completion of her gastrointestinal pathology fellowship, Dr. Backer worked in Eastern Oregon for nearly two years before joining Incyte Diagnostics in 2002.
 
Dr. Backer is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology. She is an active member of numerous national and local professional medical societies and organizations.

Dr. Backer is licensed in the states of Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Oregon.
