Determines the blood group (ABO) only of prenatal/postpartum patients. The Blood group of expectant mothers may indicate potential for hemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn. For blood grouping for any other patient population, please reach out directly to a local blood bank.

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Lavender top  tube (EDTA) - The specimen should be tested as soon as possible after collection. If testing is delayed, specimens should be stored at 2 to 8°C.

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions

Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic samples. Frozen samples. Bacterial contamination. Samples from patients other than prenatal.
