General Information

Use this mnemonic when only Cryoglobulin requested.


This assay detects the presence of a cryoglobulin, and if present, provides a semi quantitative estimate of the amount. Cryoglobulins are associated with a variety of clinical conditions including: myeloma, Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, mixed essential cryoglobulinemia, systemic lupus erythematosus, infectious mononucleosis, cytomegalovirus infections, acute viral hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, post streptococcal glomerulonephritis, infective endocarditis, leprosy, kalaazar, and tropical splenomegaly syndrome.

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Sample MUST be kept at 37c from collection through placing into centrifuge



  1. Immediately after collection place tube in 37c water bath or warming plate to clot for 1-2 hours to prevent CRYOGLOBULINS from being trapped in clot

  2. After clotting process is complete, centrifuge and aliquot serum while the sample is still warm

  3. Refrigerate the aliquoted serum
