Preferred: Specimen in a sterile container or syringe (with needle removed)
Will also accept: Bacterial Culture Transport Swab w/Gel, Amies transport swab, Eswab

Joint fluid, Joint Aspirate, Synovial fluid, Bursa fluid, CSF, Spinal fluid, Shunt fluid, Pericardial fluid, Peritoneal fluid, Pleural fluid, Paracentesis fluid, Thoracentesis fluid, Dialysate fluid, Ascites fluid, or other normally sterile body fluid

Minimum Sample Volume

1 mL fluid

Additional Processing Details

Submit as much fluid as possible for best recovery of microorganisms.

Stability

Ambient: Preferred ASAP or less than 24 hours

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions

Syringe with needle attached, frozen specimen, improper labeling, prolonged delay in transport (>48 hours)
