General Information

This test is for the diagnosis of latent TB (tuberculosis) infection.

THE ALTERNATE SPECIMEN TYPE IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO LOCATIONS THAT CAN PROCESS AS LISTED IN THE "Specimen Collection/Processing Instructions" BELOW

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Preferred: Collect 5 mL Lithium-Heparin in a 7 mL non-gel tube (if using 4 mL Lithium-Heparin non-gel tubes collect 2 full tubes), Transport tube(s) refrigerated within 40 hours of collection. Friday collections should be received the same day of collection due to weekend operating hours.


Alternate: This method is only available to locations that can process as follows: 1. Collect 1 mL minimum in each of the QuantiFERON TB Gold PLUS (4 tube set) tubes. 2. Incubate the QuantiFERON TB Gold PLUS (4 tube set) within 16 hours of collection for 16-24 hours. 3. Centrifuge the incubated QuantiFERON TB Gold PLUS (4 tube set) tubes for 15 minutes at 2,000-3,000 RCF (g). 4. Transport incubated/centrifuged QuantiFERON TB Gold PLUS tubes refrigerated.

Alternate: 1 mL whole blood in each QuantiFERON TB Gold PLUS (4 tube set)

Stability

Lithium-Heparin whole blood - refrigerated 48 hours


Alternate: Incubated/centrifuged QuantiFERON TB Gold Plus (4 tube set) - refrigerated 28 days

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions

Lithium-Heparin Gel separator tubes, Gross Hemolysis, Gross Lipemia, Gross Icterus, Alternate method submitted not following processing instructions
